Second Prototyping Meeting 080111

Page history last edited by PBworks 12 years, 10 months ago

This will be a distributed flashmob meeting along the lines suggested by Mike Butcher on his personal blog

"it strikes me that a mashup of co-working and a flash mob might work better - or at least be a way of starting the idea without investment. What you need is a cluster of about two or three cafes within walking distance of each other, all offering free WiFi. Then simply flash-mob (all turn up at the same time) those places on one particular day, with people who are signed-up to the project. At lunchtime, try to gather in one of them to meet your fellow "workers". Then do whatever you need to do that day from your allotted cafe. Crazy?"

No Mike, not crazy - well perhaps "crazy, man - crayzeee" but certainly not "crazy - don't do it"

In fact... Let's do it!

I suggest we do the following: Show up at one of the free wifi venues at 11.00 work/talk/do the things you imagine you would do if you'd shown up at the real thing - and feel free to move between locations. We come together at whichever of these is most convenient for all (Lloyd will co-ordinate) in the bar at the Couch, Dean Street at 13.00 to discuss the experience. Of course, if you want to show up earlier or are able to carry on through the afternoon, then do so, but who works on a Friday afternoon?

Brighton open-coworking day

There is an open coworking day in Brighton on Friday as well. I've made a page for it and suggest we link up and compare notes as the day progresses.

Seeing as this is on the same day, I thought it would be instructive to link the two events and to compare notes, open up various live channels of communciation etc.

A Note on the venue

Interesting that everyone's plumped for the Breakfast Club. We may have to move around a little as at the time of writing we've got 19 people coming and that might overwhelm the little place.

I want to point out to people that although the Breakfast Club has free wifi they do not allow you to plug your laptop into their electricity supply, just so that you know :)

If you turn up somewhere and I'm not there, pls could you send me an SMS so that I know where everybody is 079191 82825

[Question/suggestion for Lloyd: As someone noted below, The Couch is nearby and the largest venue - might I suggest we meet in the bar there at 13:00 - or Coach and Horses? Am just thinking that one-predefined spot for 13.00hrs would be useful. What do people think? Lloyd says: Yes, I think that's a great idea and I've amended the instructions above accordingly]

If you turn up and can't find us, call Lloyd on 079191 82825
